JNTBGRI organized a National Workshop on Ex-situ Conservation and Utilization of Medicinal Plants Through Biotechnological Interventions
Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Division had organized a National Workshop on Ex-situ Conservation and Utilization of Medicinal Plants through Biotechnological interventions (8th to 21st 2017) with the financial support by SERB, DST Govt. of India and KSCSTE Govt. of Kerala in the Institute during 8 to 21 January 2017. Scientists, Teachers, Research Associate and Research Scholars (fifteen) from various Universities, Colleges and R&D organization within and outside Kerala State were the participants. The expert Scientists from CIMAP,IIHR, NIIST, RGCB, TNAU, Central University, Kerala and JNTBGRI were imparted knowledge to the participants through lecture classes and demonstrations on modern biotechnological tools on medicinal plants such as production of clonal plants, bioactive compounds through cell/root and genetically transformed root (hairy root) culture system and its scale up using bioreactor, cryopreservation, bio-prospecting using molecular and bioinformatics tools and technique. This Proceeding cum Manual of the Workshop was compiled with papers of the talk on various subjects pertaining to the ex situ conservation of medicinal plants including a three decade story on this line at JNTBGRI followed by the experimental protocols. Besides, the workshop coeverd a study tour to Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary which harbours tropical moist-deciduous, semi-evergreen and evergreen forests in Southern Western Ghats.
